In and Out of Time

In and Out of Time is a personal film that has grown out of the death of the filmmaker’s closest friend from breast cancer. Francie was a 44-year-old mother of three young boys who was not prepared to die, even to the end. Despite knowing that Francie would not survive her cancer, and despite having read books that promised the reassurance of “a good death,” her family and friends were unprepared for the brutality of the dying process and the way Francie chose to approach death. Unlike most videos and books on dying, In and Out of Time offers an intimate look at a difficult, unresolved death. Interviews with family members, friends, hospice staff, and members of Francie’s breast cancer support group candidly describe their expectations and experiences.
